1. It’s easier to keep the soil consistently moist in small pots.
2. When you transplant to a bigger pot, it gives you a chance to check the roots, and change the soil if needed
3. Every time you transplant, it shocks the plant and makes it grow more vigorously.
4. It’s VERY common to overwater in big pots, with small plants, as the soil doesn’t dry out evenly.

Where To Find Your Planter

Locally

Down at your local grower or garden supply store is always a great place to start looking.

Online

There are many places online that you can look at. I tend to order from Amazon.com. The only drawback to online ordering is that you cannot feel the quality online. You have to trust the reviews and pictures alone.

Make Your Own

I never thought about making my own planter up until recently. I was inspired by this ‘LoveBot a Cement Planter’ on Instructables.com. Since then I have ordered a few molds of my own and am starting to make a few myself. Honestly, you most likely have a mold laying around the house you can already use. Any plastic cup or container will suffice!
